Texas Cooperative .EXTENSION The Texas A&M University System MASTER GARDENERS GREENHOUSE PROJECT PROPOSAL Purpose The Kerr County Master Gardener program is an integral part of the horticulture education conducted through the Texas Cooperative Extension program in Kerr County. The construction of the proposed greenhouse will serve as an educational tool providing training not only to the Master Gardeners in the Hill country but also to the youth of the Hill country and the Jr. Master Gardener programs in Kerr County. The facility will provide Master Gardeners with the opportunity to propagate plants that can be used in educational programs as well as beautification programs around Kerr County. The construction will include; two phases. , Phase I Phase I will include the construction of the greenhouse structure including matted flooring, cold-framing, sidewalk and two polyethylene shade cloth coverings, interior benches will support the plants at a workable height. Electrical installation will include an inflator pump & fan which will provide a thin layer of air between the two polyethylene cloth coverings to help provide insulation. Lighting will include four eight- foot fluorescent lambs which will also be installed along with a heater fan. Heating will be with propane heat. Phase II The second phase of the program will be completed during the spring of 2004. This will include the addition of the cooling fans, and evaporative cooling system. Future expansion of additional greenhouse space will be determined based on need and funding by the Master Gardeners. Requests from Kerr County Commissioners Court The Master Gardeners' through generous donations of their members have generated funds to purchase the greenhouse structure at a cost of $2,700.00 We are requesting that you assist us with this endeavor by providing us space approved by Facilities Use and Maintenance (indicated on attachment 1). Water use will vary according to plant load and time of year. Master Gardeners will provide electricity and propane for heating during winter months.
