RESOLUTION OPPOSING ADOPTION OF ANY LEGISLATION BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE THAT WOULD NEGATIVELY IMPACT THE FINANCES OF TEXAS COUNTIES. WHEREAS Local county government is required by the Constitution of the State of Texas to provide for the health, safety and welfaze of its citizens; and WHEREAS County governments are currently burdened financially with numerous Unfunded mandates laid upon them by the Texas Legislature, and reduced Spending on state programs; and WHEREAS Ever-increasing demands are being placed on county government by its Citizens to provide new and expanded services, and infrastructure, now More than ever before in history; and WHEREAS The Texas Legislature during its last session enacted legislation enabling Senior and disabled citizens to petition County government to freeze County taxes; and many jurisdictions have been required to do so; and WHEREAS The primary source of County government revenue is local property taxes And Texas citizens have made it known that they are over-burdened with Excessively high school, county, city and other property tax levies; now Therefore be it RESOLVED Kerr County Commissioners' Court strongly opposes the enactment of any Legislation that places restrictions on assessed property valuations or taxes Without the Legislature providing offsetting revenue sources from the State of Texas; and be it further RESOLVED Kerr County Commissioners' Court supports increased State of Texas Funding for local school districts by means other than local property Taxes; and be it further RESOLVED That copies of this Resolution be forwazded to Senator Troy Fraser, Representative Harvey Hilderbran, Lt.
