ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is intended to be illustrative and does not represent an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. Prepares Texas Health Status Forms for inmates transferring to Texas Department of Corrections or to Substance Abuse Felony Program. Organizes inmate medical request forms for Main Sick Call with physician. Communicates with physician regarding inmate's medical needs, care and emergencies. Maintains proper infection control protocol and procedures regarding blood borne pathogens and oversees -- training of staff in protective handling of materials. Remains on-call for inmate medical emergency needs. Schedules physician and dental appointments for inmates as needed, and notifies Corrections Shift Supervisor of appointments for transportation accommodations. Orders and maintains sufficient over-the-counter medications and medical supplies. Distributes inmate medications, and trains staff to properly distribute medications. Maintains proper inventory control to ensure that inmates receive required medications as needed. Maintains organized work area including the maintenance and record-keeping of inmate medication files. Ensures adherence of OSHA health regulations for jail staff and law enforcement officers in the facility. Administers proper medications to enforce these regulations when necessary. Administers Tuberculosis testing to all facility staffand inmates, reads records results Performs related duties as required.
