Let me call to order the special Commissioners Court meeting scheduled for this time and date, Friday, November 12th, 2004, posted for 9 a.m. It is that time now. The agenda item listed is to canvass the General Election results. The clerk has provided me with the tabulations, and let me go through those now. For United States President and Vice President: Republican, George Bush/Cheney, the numbers are 16,530. Democrat, Kerry/Edwards, 4,556. Libertarian, Badnarik and Campagna, 111. There were a total of 64 write-in votes of the declared write-in candidates: Andrew J. Falk and Marijohn Peterman, none received. David Keith Cobb/Patricia LaMarche, none received. Let me go back and correct the Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards numbers. I was incorrect on Bush/Cheney with 16,530; that number should be 16,538. COMMISSIONER LETZ: Representative Hil,derbran, I believe. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Representative Hilderbran. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: It wasn't Steve after all. I thought it was. COMMISSIONER LETZ: That's quite a bit. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: 17,1, mm-hmm. And Steve was second, with 16,9. JUDGE TINLEY: Appears to be, yeah. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Representative is very, very difficult to live with when that happens, believe me. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: Bet you're right. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Some kind of fiefdom, all of a sudden, set up. JUDGE TINLEY: At this point, I think it's in order that there be a motion to approve the canvass of the votes as indicated on the record. COMMISSIONER LETZ: I move we approve the canvassing the votes as read. COMMISSIONER NICHOLSON: Second. COMMISSIONER LETZ: Judge, I just have a -- a question. This is the first time, on the local candidates, we've never -- we've done it the way we did it, with -- that they weren't on the ballot. Should we not read into the record as to who was elected for all those spots? 'Cause this is the official, I guess, tally of said votes. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: The unopposed candidates. COMMISSIONER LETZ: All the unopposed candidates in the local races. I don't know if we should read them in or not, but it seems that, for future record, it might not be a bad idea to have it memorializing the -- MS. PIEPER: Let me run and get the names real quick for you. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: That's a good idea. JUDGE TINLEY: Certainly. COMMISSIONER NICHOLSON: What was the Democrats' showing compared to historical levels? Was it up some? COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: It's up. COMMISSIONER LETZ: I'm not sure. COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS: I think it's up a little bit. The Court unanimously approved by vote 4-0-0 to accept General Election results and amend the motion to include reading the unapposed local candidates into the minutes.
